Lift the lid and a small light set into the hinge throws a spotlight straight down onto whatever is sitting inside, so a stone still catches the light in a dim restaurant or a garden at dusk. The shell is a deep blue and the inside is black velvet, with a slot cut for the piece to sit in so it does not slide around while the lid is moving. The light runs off a cell that is already fitted, so there is nothing to buy or set up before you use it. There are two sizes. The smaller one is cut for rings and earrings, the larger one takes a necklace or a bracelet laid flat. Both come with a matching blue tote bag and a silver polishing cloth, so it is ready to hand over without any wrapping. One thing worth being clear about: the box is the packaging, not the present. No jewellery is included. Keep the lid shut when you are not showing it off and the cell will last through a great many openings.
